Andreas Lucewicz

with Sviatoslav Richter

I first met Sviatoslav Richter 1983 under inconvenient
circumstances.

Richter hated to fly. That´s why he needed a driver
from Vienna back to his country Russia. And as I was
asked to take him there, it was like an adventure.

I really was pleased to do this job. From this moment on,
an active musical exchange began.

In May 1993 he asked me to correpitate works
of Saint-Saëns and Gershwin. It was the first time
that we sat together in front of a piano.

Out of this raised his personal invitation for playing
together Max Reger´s Beethoven variations op.86.

I had the luck to be one of only six pianists who
perfomed with Richter in public and to participate
on his last official concert.

"To Andreas Lucewicz....

Whose piano playing impressed
me, whom I consider a really
good musician and whom I
acknowledge as a serious,
mature pianist. He commands
a large, interesting repertoire,
a brilliant technique, and
a beautiful sound."
